But still few people see the boar.Friends of the Boarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15967173870514754401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2787160331703156433.post-75747759865918812402014-11-10T23:36:23.460+00:002014-11-10T23:36:23.460+00:00Your welcome comment is what all our supporters an...Your welcome comment is what all our supporters and many residents say.

If we had 819 boar, or 12 every km2, we would be seeing them all the time even on very short walks.

The census is a joke intended to fool only those who never walk in the Forest of Dean.

Take a look at the next post and the census details. Some areas of the Forest allegedly have over 25 boar per km2 - the largest density on earth.

The census is flawed to the point of ridiculous and we will point out why next.

All the best Patrick, please keep your comments coming.Friends of the Boarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15967173870514754401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2787160331703156433.post-55688018451598115502014-11-05T15:51:41.513+00:002014-11-05T15:51:41.513+00:00I spend a lot of time in the Forest of Dean, walki...I spend a lot of time in the Forest of Dean, walking, cycling etc. I frequently visit different areas of the forest, from Nags Head Nature Reserve in the south to the woods around Brierley in the north.

Despite spending so much time in the woods (often purposely looking for wild boar) and in such a variety of locations around the forest, it may surprise people to know that since the beginning of 2014, I have seen only 3 wild boar.

This is quite a disappointing number.

The Forestry Commission have clearly over-exaggerated the population of the boar, and despite this great website and a large amount of public condemnation of the culls, the slaughter seems to continue year on year.

What a shame that whilst the rest of Europe has enjoyed increased re-introduction of once native predators, we can't even tolerate a few wild pigs hiding in the woods.
